How unique are we really?

Humans are so incredible. On one level each one of us is so unique with fingerprints that are like snowflakes; if we look closer even, I’m sure the tiny, fibrous patterns of the iris of the eye reflects the distinctive light with respect to its unique balance of melanocytes to its surface dips, pits, and ridges. Or consider all the unfathomable possible variations in size and shape between each person’s stapedius, the muscle slightly larger than a millimeter that mobilizes the stapes, the smallest bone in the human body, if your measurements are small enough.

But, emotions? Mental chatter? Self-doubt, anger… We all have these components. Most of us have these components in different ratios, but the formula for provocation is usually the same. There is a trigger. There is a feeling that’s coated with a thick (or thin) layer that reflects an experience from the past. If the observer believes it still, it gets looped 🔁 around again. That false narrative attaches to similar thoughts and beliefs which can become a spiral.

We are mostly the same. We have families, friends, structures. So many of us even live in group think. There are collectives and factions and the tendency to group together and congregate is also what makes us similar, or work to together collectively. Then again, lots of us are separators, runners, and hiders. We cannot trust that even in our closest affiliations with others that they are loyal, trustworthy, or just.

The way that we are complex and dynamic is often similar, which is why we are—in the end—simple creatures.

Meanwhile, the depth of character and richness of experiences makes us, each one of us, as a song played only ever once. That which will never be repeated in all of history and into the future of all the worlds.

That makes this moment, this very, very moment: very, very precious. Who you are is you who is looking out, watching the expandingly infinite universe continue to grow into ever-forming eccentricities of new variation, all connected to the same consciousness. 💗

  1. Thank you Ka for this wonderful post….such a positive way to begin the week. Perhaps in our high tech, fast moving world we tend to forget our uniqueness or even try to hide it…when as you say it is very precious and something we really need to nurture for each and every second that we are alive. 2. We are complex bundles of thoughts and feelings wrapped in skin while flying around the universe on a spinning globe with just enough air, water, and more to support us. Amazing! Thanks for stimulating my awe Ka.

Please drop me a petal from your beautiful self and let me know that you visited :)
