Taking a big, deep breath… Let’s get spicy and do the thing in November!

pepper2017

When you notice that I am posting even more frequently in November (hopefully). You’ll see that you, too, can join in. I will be participating in Nano Poblano, “the World’s Least Official Blog-Everyday-November Challenge.” Nothing gets me motivated like something that isn’t officially official-official, and really has the spirit of community, teamdom, and freedom. We all want to have fun. Here’s the official link. Especially if you are already a regular every day blogger, and want to reach more people, and participate more as well – go sign up!

Nothing says “potential over-commitment” like Jupiter conjunct Sun in Scorpio – so I thought it’d be a great time (or worst time) to take a deep dive. You get it, folks, I decided to go for the swim! Isn’t it exciting!? That said, considering my away-from-the-blog work/life/family balance, it should be an equally busy season off-blog. My throat already feels scratchy and my lymph nodes feel swollen, so why don’t we do it?! I’m gonna enjoy this, or at least enjoy trying! Oh, and the self-care… that’ll happen.  🙂

Blogging, for me, brings together my favorite things art, celebration, exploration, empowerment, and meditation, and growing together. I need the calm to balance the excitement. I need the bland to balance the spicy. I need the deep-discussions to balance the light-hearted whimsy. I need my own commitment to my writing/art/astro/photography space getting out there, and I need it to be okay when I don’t make it out the gate, or I just hide under the blankets.

This is my home beyond me. This is where I live, and I intend to keep decorating, or louse it up, whatever is my choice. If you stick around for my posts, I thank you all in advance for supporting me and my self-expression, as it ebbs and flows, changes and grows.

Gosh, all ya’all please join us, here!

Courageous living, Solar Eclipse

There is no outward representation for peace.
we can look to examples all around us,
and while there might be evidence of the opposite,
the creator force inside us

if we shine our attention on It,

can motivate us to rise out of bed,
can motivate us
to face injustice,
can help us hold our core values
within our hearts,

despite what is happening –

though I do think this is not easy
all the time, and therefore, like holding oneself
by virtue of the muscles of ones own legs,

one needs to rest from time to time
in the center of one’s own being

for a while,
for renewal and for strengthening.

Inside us is the whole peace ensemble.

Inside us is the access to trust,
Inside us is the fuel for living through –
and beyond the terrible rage that threatens with violence,

which is only the weather –
that must pass,
for it cannot stay forever.

For those who experience loss, may something be gained.

Maui inspired print

I wasn’t planning on sharing this painting, or at least yet. I made it as a fun print, with kid’s washable paint. It’s on wood. I like the blank spots, for now.  Not worrying about being a “serious” painter – I like that every time I sit down to make some art, or I make art on the fly – it’s for a different reason, season, need, purpose. Sometimes I study an object, sometimes I just want to have fun. That’s what this was. Also, I’m not pigeon-holing it into “something” or needing to be defined. I’m letting it live on its own.

That said, I am sad to hear today about a colleague’s artwork being stolen. I’m angry. I’d like to keep the details private but I wanted to offer up my “make it easier” coloring in honor of this loss and ask that the artwork be returned to the owner it was gifted to and so that the work can continue to heal and make its offerings on the wall where it was originally set.

Scorpio as a sign in general tends to guard that 8th house of losses and gains. We are in the midst of the full moon with the nodes changing into Leo/N.Node and Aquarius/S.Node. I am a big believer that we don’t lose anything, only the physical form. I can only imagine how much of a blow it was to the creator of the artwork – with the art’s intention to heal and provide.  This is the human condition, no one is free from loss. May this person, and all involved, experience a full restoration.

New Moon in Leo

The chart was drawn for July 26th, San Diego, CA @ 3:42pm – Sun/Moon @ 3.52 Leo

I’ve waited most of the year for this New Moon in Leo, and now I can’t think of anything to write about it. I’m looking at the charts and wondering why for such a creative sign as Leo – absolutely ‘nothing’ is coming to mind (and it’s my Sun sign). Although, I am a shy Leo. This New Moon will be in my natal 6th house of health, service, and work. I’ve got an exam to study for, so I will make this post brief.

Where will it be ‘taking place’ in your chart?

There are some trines and kite formations. The chart looks pretty good except that the New Moon squares Mars, which has just entered the sign of Scorpio (Mars ingress Scorpio). Sun conjunct Jupiter can have us feeling larger-than-life – we may be very busy with philosophy, travel, publishing and “big-ideas.” In fact, with Sun conjunct Jupiter, there’s a tendency to overextend oneself into multiple projects at once, or to have overly optimistic expectations. That’s okay, for some of you, you’ll have just the right amount of optimism you need (where you normally lack it).

Meanwhile, Venus and Mercury are in Cancer. Venus is forming a square to Uranus within a 6 degree orb, giving us a T-Square of Venus (Cancer), Uranus (Aries), and Pluto (Capricorn). Venus square Uranus is bringing a lot new relationships, and maybe some unexpected behavior in finances as well. Venus is trine to Saturn in Scorpio, and Neptune in Pisces, so there’s a watery fluid feel to these new relationships- these new relationships are about nurturing and support – with the presence of a well-aspected Saturn, practical support.

Are we thinking about Dads more in a positive light? Are we thinking of Dad’s philosophies right now more than usual? This energy is built for us to get in touch with our main energy source – the Sun. Do we project it outward onto the men in our lives, our fathers, our husbands (for those who are traditional)? One of the traditional interpretations for the Sun in a woman’s chart is of the father or husband.  I think many women, however, have learned to ‘own’ their creative Source. The way I interpret the sun in a chart depends on the other aspects of the chart.

Nevertheless, these are some things to think about.

Further, Leo rules the 5th house; it represents the offspring or child. It is the expression of innocence in individuality. The promise of a new life.  Ask yourself what is born from taking risks? Does joyfulness extend from leisure time? (another 5th house/Leo matter)

On another note, I’m celebrating my first anniversary with my beloved husband (Sun in 7th house). I couldn’t be more excited and delighted for us to share an especially fun, spiritually opulent (Jupiter), and spicy (square Mars), lunation. We always have an adventure together! This is just the perfect time to celebration our union.  Wow!

Hello friends, readers, visitors, and welcome guests:

This morning a friend shared something that ‘set the tone’ for my morning. It’s a special story, an unbelievable story!

You can read about it here, and maybe it will inspire something in you – like it did in me. It’s a story about not allowing the appearances of things determine your understanding of them. Things are not always what they seem! There’s a hunter in every heart, and a heart in every hunter. Watch and see what happens, as those who wrote the story, tell the story.

Lots of Love,

Ka Malana

Exuberant Full Moon in Leo, February 14, 2014

ImagePhoto from: oprs.usc.edu

This full moon is at 27 Leo with the Sabian symbol for, “Daybreak – the luminescence of dawn in the eastern sky.” All year so far we’ve been heralding new beginnings—and OH it does continue. This beginning is more about your individual flare. What is it that only you can contribute, that no one else can? Simply by virtue of being yourself—you offer your energy and your services—your presence, your individuality is part of ALL that is. Your ability to ‘be present’ is your gift to creation.

I’ve never really identified with my Leo Sun-sign, even though, in part I did more-so when I was a child. When I was a child, I was rather uninhibited. A full moon in Leo with sun in Aquarius is a time when my solar energy and my ascendant path are highlighted. Perhaps it was the attention to the Leo side of me that the Aquarius side of me felt really neglected—outcast, even. Well, I’m starting to feel the pendulum swing back again, my friends. Every time it does swing though, it brings with it the momentum from where it’s come. The seeming polarity of Aquarius and Leo has begun vibrating in my life with a resonant tone. The archetypes have been singing together, the SAME tune!

I‘ve been walking the path of Ubuntu. As astrologer Stephanie Austin so wonderfully writes in the Mountain Astrologer for this lunation something that I’ve had in my mind for a while, but never put into words myself. “Ubuntu, a Zulu or Xhosa word meaning ‘humanness,’ is a principle that describes the spiritual task of Aquarius: to create a kinship transcending family, religion, race, and country.”  It’s a great word. I first noticed it when people talked about open source computer software. Then, I heard it while wearing my Anthropologist’s hat.
Now, you don’t have to be an Aquarius rising and Leo Sun to want that, Ubuntu, nor do you have to be an astrologer, a Zulu or a Xhosa, but the anthropologist in me feels that she was looking for that kinship in tribe for a long time, and she’s really found it. This full moon in Leo also activates my Nodal axis of N.Node in Leo and S. Node in Aquarius.

Regardless of what the astrological interpretation IS:  I’m going to enjoy myself –and move as spirit moves me.  I know what it means to be human and transcend my family, religion, race, and country. Now, I want to know, again, what it IS like to just be ME again, with nothing to transcend.

I’m starting to get my incredibly long and unmanageable mane back (my hair). I’m starting to find that spark that was purely ME again.  Let’s DO this, tribe! Let’s BE US—a people full of ME—that are really good at letting other people BE whoever it is that THEY ARE… and encouraging all of us… just to BE. I look forward to this new momentum and updating my website, and all that I can make available to you via this spiritual transmission of beingness called Ka Malana. In my heart of hearts, I SEE you. I FEEL you. You have inspired me to cultivate my own spark, for you and I are ONE. Thank you.

I’ve been working with a beautiful deck by Ana Cortez, http://anacortez.com/. She and her father created the deck together. Here’s a poem about the One-Eyed Jacks by CJF that I think really illustrates the duality of Aquarius and Leo; the subjective and the objective realities; science and art. I also encourage you to check out this oracle beautiful deck, if it resonates with you.

“THE ONE-EYED JACKS”

In among the Lords and the Ladies

That rule this curious pack,

There’s a one-eyed pair of brothers

Both take the name of Jack.

At a glance they seem dissimilar,

Like night opposing day

Each looks his own direction,

Sees the world in his own way.

What’s misleading, each lives separate

And serves a different Queen

But unless they’re viewed together,

Leaves half a man unseen.

August 6, 2013 Leo New Moon, Heart Torus

Image

At the ‘new moon’ the moon is conjunct (next to) the sun – both at the degree of 15 Leo. The moon looks dark in the sky. As with all new moons, the interpretation is that at this time (within 3 days) of the new moon, is the start of something new.  Where in your chart – what house or area of influence?  I cannot say, unless I am looking at your chart. But, I can speak more generally about how a new moon event is “unseen,” much like how a seed is planted beneath the soil. Until the seed has germinated and grown above the soil, it cannot be seen. The full moon gives us an indication of what was planted.

As I meditated and reflected, allowing what wanted to come through me for this blog post, I worked with Francis Hart’s ‘Sacred Geometry Cards.’ The card that corresponds with this new moon is called “Heart Torus: Intelligence of the Heart.” This card asks you to “integrate head and heart”… “[that] mind and emotions [Francene writes]…are “the expression and function of the intelligence of the heart.” You can get more information on her and her artwork via her website at http://www.francenehart.com/ .  I have not gotten her permission to post her artwork so I’m sharing a link to her website for your own inquiry, should you wish to go deeper. Also, if you’d like to know more about the relationship between the head and the heart, check out: http://wellbeingcenter.com/happy-valentines-day-extraordinary-facts-about-your-heart/

The message of the heart torus card is perfect to express what the sign Leo represents in each of our charts. Leo asks us to be more heart-centered, to take the cultivation and upwelling of emotion from the past that was experienced in the sign of Cancer, and re-create through self expression, and giving gifts from the heart.

The Sabian Symbol for Leo 15 is “A Pageant.”  If you would like to know more about Sabian Symbols, you can read more here:  http://www.sabiansymbols.com/  There you can click on the Sabian Symbol Story and learn all about how Elsie Wheeler channeled the symbols, and how Marc Edmund Jones, an astrologer, came to write his book in 1953.

What we can get from “A Pageant” is showcasing your talents. Express the innate ability within you to allow your beauty to exist in the eyes of the world. Let them judge you – it is of no concern – for you have given yourself over to the expression of your joy – whatever comes of that, well, is not necessarily up to ‘you’ either. Leo is the expression of ego or identity. It also relates to the child, and with childlike innocence, the playfulness of Leo is the expression of BECOMING, a process of unveiling the individual ray of life that your experience asks you to be. It comes from within. “This little light of mine…I’m gonna let it shine…” song comes to mind.

Leo asks us to balance the head with the heart. After all the emotion and intuition brought in via the experience of the sign Cancer, and whether or not like a crab we hid ourselves, our light, our essence because we were timid. Leo asks us to step out of the closet and be not afraid of our talents, our flaws, or walking into the light of day, even into the spotlight. Remember, too, the spotlight can feel like a lonely place. This is why, as an archetype, Leo tends to be very generous. Leo wants to “give away” the energy that’s been cultivated in the sign of Cancer (through family). The sign Leo also rules children in astrology.

Aspects: Jupiter/Mars conjunction (passion/expansion) trines Neptune (spirituality, transcendence) trines North Node of the Moon at Scorpio 13 – Sabian Symbol “An inventor experimenting.”

No sign stands alone. In order to understand Leo, you have to understand the fixed cross. Here are its other members: Aquarius, Taurus, and Scorpio. These signs anchor the material plane of existence. Aquarius (air), Leo (Fire), Taurus (Earth), and Scorpio (Water). One must understand the zodiacal archetypes within the template of the whole wheel.  For today, express your joy. Om Mani Padme Hum.

Leo New Moon August 3 2011

Leo New Moon: Self-Hood, Be your Best Self.

The self is not just ‘one thing.’ The self is composed of: the lower self, the higher Self, the personality, the ego, and the soul matrix. We have the discipline of psychology to thank for giving us other ‘terms’ such as, Id, Super-ego, and the Unconscious. Altogether, we can recognize that there are multiple forms of self that are “inside” us. Our pieces of self are our values, beliefs, our mentality, and our dreams (interpretation of reality). Now all these pieces are functional and healthy when they seem to all be “the same thing,” but it’s possible for these pieces to be in conflict.  Read about the psychologist Carl Jung and astrology, visit http://www.creative-personal-growth.com/carl-jung2.html, “His Interest in Astrology.”

Swiss psychologist (1875-1961) Carl Gustav Jung founded the discipline of Analytical Psychology, and basically awakened the collective consciousness to a cursory awareness of itself (after all, he coined the term collective unconscious). Jung is also famous for defining the term “projection.” That which is not realized or unconscious by the individual is seen as characteristic within the other to whom one is in relationship. This projection is a result of the unconsciousness or the “Shadow” aspect of self. The shadow is projected on the other because the ego cannot manage it as a self-definition. Thus the integration of the shadow is required for individuation to take place. Please see the 4th excerpt from Jung on this page. Individuation relates very well to the sign of astrological sign of Leo. For more on the Carl Jung and individuation process: http://soultherapynow.com/articles/individuation.html

In its simplest terms, the Leo archetype is all about reflection. The light that shines back on us is a reflection of the light that we ourselves are emitting. The shadow’s we cast, too, are very much our own shadows. With Leo the creator is born, the artist, the actor. One can only “act” as oneself and thereby those actions do shape and develop the character as he tries on different types of expressions. For Leo, self-development is essential. Leo will attempt to re-decorate the world to reflect itself so that it can maintain its individuality, only excepting complete adoration, seeing anything less as dissension. Until eventually Leo rests in some kind of knowing-ness that its Self-hood cannot be threatened by other special Selves, because the Self is reinforced as an illusion of the ego. The powerfully subjective experience of self, seeming to have no collective meaning, is nothing but a collective expression, and is urged out.

Have fun being yourself this new moon. Try different ways to shine! The paradigm of Leo is playful.
