How is our creator involved in our human process of “making something of ourselves” in our lives, and in the lives of others? I said the following to my husband in a conversation:
“
I think for me, the fact that I am on a material planet makes me think that I should have some material goals that actualize before I die. As long as we are alive we want something measurable to become of it. I just think that is human nature. And unless we get real clear about our values and beliefs… and then make plans…Life gets wasted in the loss of memories and unsung songs.” He said, “I think there’s a poem in there.” My goal is to publish another poetry book in 2024. I have other things to consider around the journey of preparing a collection of poems for another book.
What has spawned some of these discussions is something new I’m doing called “Reluctant Shaman,” and this is a 6 week, free course. We ask and answer a series of 30 questions and 5 per week, as a study group. Narrative discussion:
This exercise of posting every day with the theme of a Tao Te Ching passage to be revealed at the end of the month… is a lot of fun 🤩
I’m already beginning to come up with a theme for the month of December. Reading blogs and interacting adds a lot to my life. During this time of holiday seasons, being cozy at home stirs my senses with creativity and rest: the perfect combination. I feel so comfortable and at home. I’m nurturing this feeling by being in this space at this time of year. Meanwhile I’m planning book reading from lovely authors I know through blogging as well.
Astrology:
New moon in Scorpio ♏️ is coming up on November 13. It touches exactly our family’s charts, so it’s a pleasure to share as the cosmic growth continues to happen. Mars features strongly and pulling an opposition to Uranus in Taurus ♉️. Uranus is known as the “unpredictable” one, expressly surprises us in ways that can fast-track our path forward and/or toward enlightenment. Jupiter shares the sign Taurus ♉️ during this transit. The energy is all about building and expansion, solidity—and, it’s opposite. We are undergoing deep transformational processes (but I don’t think you need me to tell you that.).
Why astrology? It’s “added.” It’s a bonus way to track your journey. After all, the Earth is flying through the solar system. It’s natural to look out the window and read the signs. Sure, you can do it all with your eyes closed (but that’s just not as much fun!)

For Each of the days of November, I will be posting from the Tao Te Ching, using Stephen Mitchell’s translation. Each title is one word in the overall passage. Each day will include a picture, and potentially some prose that begins with the same word from the Tao Te Ching. On the final day, all the titles will be joined together in one post to read it through as it is written in the Tao Te Ching.
