Full Moon in Cancer: Abiding with what’s small and true, in balance.

Good morning everyone,

This upcoming full moon in Cancer–January 3rd, depending on where you view from–is known as the Wolf moon, a time when the wolf’s howl is heard strikingly clearly amidst the silent, stark, and snowy winter landscape, maybe even with a ricochet (but not if you are in the Southern Hemisphere!).

It’s the first full moon of the Gregorian, solar calendar year. For this reason it usually gets emphasis; despite my title that de-emphasizes “bigness,” it is still appropriate. I will elaborate on my “tone-down” later. But before that, another contrasting amplifier to my “tone down” is that it’s another Super Moon.

A Super Moon is astronomically defined when the full moon takes place at the same time that the moon is closest to Earth during its (elliptical) orbit, also called perigee. This phenomenon causes the moon to look larger. This will be the 4th consecutive super moon since October.

What makes this particular Cancer full moon unique astrologically is that it is comes at a time when the Sun is sandwiched between Mars and Venus— all in close conjunction. Mercury is also forming a square aspect to Saturn. It’s this Mercury square Saturn aspect and its energy that endures because it carries on for a few brief days. It helps us remove what is no longer serving. The full moon is close to Jupiter, but not close enough (not with a tight enough orb) for it to have a significant influence on energy/meaning.

Since a full moon is astrologically “Sun opposite Moon” and the Sun is sandwiched in between transiting Mars and Venus in Capricorn, this full moon is opposite Venus and Mars. Cancer and Capricorn are the duality and the two-sides of the same coin. The opposition aspect brings clarity, objectivity, and sometimes ‘balancing’ tension. It’s a dynamic balance, not fixed. Cancer relates to inner world, home, and family; while Capricorn relates to the public, business, and reputation/status. Capricorn pursues outside “world” action, while Cancer pursues inner beingness and creation.

The call to balance the Masculine and Feminine response, action and receptivity, matters here. Since the moon culminates in Cancer, it values what is protective and requires tenderness. Often times this is the small. The small can be the unborn, the “just born,” and the creative urge for new life that wants to be born.

A Cancer full moon is a good closure for the festive holiday season which often involves family and home dynamics. Over the years, cultural interpretations for how to celebrate the new year have shifted in favor of widening into multi-cultural dynamics. Many celebrate the new year with the lunar calendar and consider the beginning of the year as the second new moon after the Winter Solstice on @December 21–the typical calendar in Asia. In recent years I’ve been hearing more and more people treat the Lunar New Year as a 2.0 version, or a “do over.” Gosh, take your pick.

I like this.

Basically it gives people a soft landing for a New Year. There’s not got to be a lot of haste around the start. In this day and age when living is like cramming for constant performance exams and everyone is eager to live “their best lives” all in this one, the pressure to live life “well” is a bit absurd, considering a good life also requires the balance of some rest and relaxation.

So, back to my title.

This morning I thought about how rare it actually is to have real success in most any endeavor, especially the most important endeavor: life. You could use the sperm and egg metaphor, which I will down below. Keep in mind that phenomena of healing is also a very delicate and tender process that requires not only quite a bit of willpower, but also a big dose of the wisdom of “allowing.” The body knows the way, it just needs to be supported. Back to my analogy.

It takes something like 300+ million sperm to fertilize an egg. Despite natural aberrations, it’s usually just the one sperm that fertilizes the egg. That means that all those other 299+ million are “wasted,” or shall I say they do have purpose but not in the endgame. They are part of the process. Only a few dozens actually contact the egg and work to weaken the outer layer or zona pellucida. But each one did play a role—just not the star role.

Nature works with probability and not necessarily with efficiency. The work is done by large numbers but what actually fertilizes is the one. See? The small one, or the bigness of the many… everything matters but focus is selective.

Similarly, look at planting seeds to create a plant. Hundreds to millions of seeds planted produce 1 plant. That is less than 1% of seeds make a mature plant.

So when we sit with this first lunation of 2026 (what we actually use to time the writing of the calendar, and therefore this solar calendar sets into motion the machinery of our global and societal systems), think about how many choices you’ve made in your long lifespan, the people you’ve canceled or who have canceled you, the failed attempts at tending to your own gardens, your own body and health, the creative projects that lay fallow; but not so fast: be very encouraged.

There is a small but abiding few values, adherent lifestyle passions, choices, creative developments, and long term close friendships that survive from year to year.

This is the precious few that I want you to focus on in this New Year, 2026. You might want to run out charging against the wind like a fire horse (wait for it…), but let’s first get our gear on, temper ourselves, and balance all our tendencies to charge or be lazy, size up our inner world one aspect of us against another while we prepare for this onset of 2026. This brand-spanking-New Year. What will you put your energy into to help it survive?

Take the time you need, rest, and nourish that inner world with this Cancer Full Moon, see what wants to truly live and carry on with you in 2026.

With love and appreciation,

Happy New Year, 2026

Ka 💗

P.S. That whole slogan “Go big or go home” came out of the Pluto in Capricorn years. We are now in the age of Aquarius. Pluto settled into Aquarius on November 19, 2024. So 2025 was its first full year in Aquarius— it will be in Aquarius until 2044. It’s time to take our power back from systems and corporations. It’s time to be an individual in full. It’s a long term trend.

Release illusions to activate the essential dream!

Hello friends,

I’m writing to you about the Lunar eclipse event coming up on Sept 7, 2025, in Pisces. The places to view the eclipse are Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, not North or South Americas. Here’s the eclipse path from spaceandtelescope.com.

This eclipse is tied to the solar eclipse on Sept 21, also in Virgo/Pisces axis, but this time in Virgo at 29 degrees. The real theme that will come forward here is linked to the February Saturn/Neptune exact conjunction: February 20, 2026, at ‘0 Degree’ Aries. I’ve spoken about that in a previous post. Here are the dot points on the Saturn/Neptune conjunction:

  • Dream vs. Reality
  • Making dreams into Reality
  • Feeling forced to give up dreams by Saturn limitations
  • Uncertainty about what is fantasy and what is real
  • Saturnian discipline helping to parse out and work out Neptunian dreams and ideals: Vision to Form
  • Daydreams and escapes of fantasy— and Saturnian consequences!
  • New forms of artistic inspiration (Neptune) with different forms (Saturn)
  • Saturn/Neptune conjunct is asking: “What really is possible here?”

Here’s that chart for the Sept 21 eclipse that I’ll talk about more in a post that is closer to the date:

The reason why I think these eclipses, and especially this Sept 7 eclipse in Pisces, are linked to the Saturn/Neptune conjunction is because:

  1. This eclipse is immediately followed by the Aquarius eclipse in Februrary 2026signaling the beginning of the end of the Virgo/Pisces series (It’s not the last one, but it’s the beginning of the new series, marked by Aquarius/Leo).
  2. This Sept 7 Lunar eclipse comes right on the heels of Saturn’s retrograde back into Pisces for a final pass (Sept 1.). Saturn originally entered Pisces on March 7, 2023 and transiting into Aries on May 24, 2025: leading to an ALMOST conjunction with Neptune. But since it retrograded back, it’s also not going to be re-entering Aries until February 13, 2026— just days before the great Neptune/Saturn exact conjunction. An exact conjunction means that the energies are potent and have matured!
  3. The Saturn/Neptune conjunction will happen in February while Neptune (the Modern Ruler or Pisces) is still its retrograde zone, after just have spending time in its original home: Pisces.
  4. Saturn in Pisces is going to be closely opposing the Solar Eclipse in Virgo on Sept 21, 2025 at the anaretic degree of Virgo 29. This is a very potent point. Saturn will be at 28 degree Pisces which is a pretty close/tight orb. Anything below 3 degrees has the strongest potency. The tighter the orb, the stronger the impact.

So, overall, there’s this very interesting story going on in the sky to help you to release illusions and sort out what is real. It might not be very easy (it might FEEL impossible), but it will be worth it. With Saturn’s influence, not much is easy; there’s often restrictions and redirection. You really tend to utilize your blood, sweat, and tears, when moving through life during intense Saturn transits.

So what is an essential dream? Why is that a part of your title?

The word essence means (https://etymologyworld.com/item/essence):

  • The fundamental nature or core characteristics of something
  • The concentrated or pure form of something

Etymologically it comes from “esse” the latin meaning “to be.” Inside of us is all of creation, the potential to make or create anything in our experience. That potential extends from our essence.

No matter what is going on in the world right now (and I know, it’s grim: war, politics at their worst, and the divisions and misinformation is up more than we would like), we still have a certain amount of time to enjoy whatever freedoms we have. It’s our freedom to create, to bond with one another, and to learn from our experiences and also to tie these experiences to the “bigger picture.” Neptune and Pisces are very spiritual. This symbolism is rich (and for some of us, it is more than symbolism) but for you, take it at whatever level is one that ‘works’ for you.

Notice we are each the architect of our own dreams. Every dream is unique. Some dreams reflect unfulfilled desires, repressed impulses, and incomplete experiences, or serve as a substitute for and pointer toward realities beyond them. The symbols we project in waking life are part of the story we weave for ourselves. Symbols we project into our experience are like ghosts. They offer insights into the true self by revealing our conditioned beliefs, how connected or disconnected we are to our heart and the Earth. We each have the power to rescript our symbols, shift energy we receive, decode and transmit to transform from the core.” —Liara Covert

I don’t know if I tied this message together well enough for you all. But, if you are feeling shaky and disconnected at times and other times *very* connected and then doubting that, it’s all normal. What you are experiencing is really in the stars. Each and every single person is going to experience it differently– some will think life is “just the same.” Our perception is really what matters, but I want to encourage you to connect yourself with a greater vision, magick and dream, one that really fills and fuels your soul. It’s here, and its available: AND ABSOLUTELY NOTHING can reduce the essence or make smaller the importance of your dream. So I ask you now: What can you let go of? What is standing in your way of realizing your own potential, right now? Virgo is all about the details. Those details are going to be completely unique to each one of you, but Virgo carefully crafts. Your craft in life is definitely tied to your essence. Like a kite in the sky, your kite is your craft (how it flies) but the essence of your kite is the WAY it connects with the unique weather pattern at any given moment. How will you build, fix, and fashion your kite?

Love you all, so much! Use the comments to reflect on anything I’ve written here.

With gratitude,

Ka

A reading for you: Creation

As we move towards the Full Moon in Aries coming up this September 29, depending on where you are, I asked Spirit to give me a reading for my blog readers. That reading was completed with the one card, above. Creation.

The card comes from the Chakra Wisdom Oracle, by Tori Hartman

This card is all about the artistic shaman. It leaped from the deck that I shuffled in preparation for this reading. The energy with this one is strong! This card is all about opening to magic and hitching to one’s inner muse.

The following is the meditation from the guidebook:

“Open the notebook to a clean page. Close your eyes and image She Shaman standing in the mist, holding out her hand. Follow her into the mist. As you walk she motions to sit. Ask for her guidance. Pick up your notebook and write. Simply write whatever comes. Do not censor or judge the words. They may mean nothing right now, but they will. Thank She Shaman for her visit.”

Tori Hartman

What have you always wanted to do but always stopped in your tracks? No matter what it is, you have to ask yourself: which is stronger fear or curiosity? This time is all about breaking lose of the confines of the known and starting off as a newbie–without anyone’s permission! Aries is a seed of fire that when planted and fueled with your intention, will bind to matter and create a new thread of connection, which will branch off into a number of unseen ways. The full moon is a cumulation, but my intuition has it that the energy has been growing inside you for some time; and at the full moon, it is ready to be released into a new beginning. A burst of light. Take 5 deep breaths and then make your move!

Cancer New Moon, July 1 2011, Partial Solar Eclipse — Fiesta Estrellas

This reblog is one of my favorites.

I remember writing this post, and it really was a collection of information and knowledge I gained through many years of experience. The one thing that stood out to me when re-reading, was thinking about how the signs of both Pisces and Cancer deal with the subconscious. Pisces because of its relationship to the 12th house of the unconscious (and its nature as a water sign) and Cancer because of its inherent relationship with the moon (and it’s a water sign). Scorpio also shares that water relationship. When you differentiate the water signs you want to look to its modality: Fixed, Cardinal, or Mutable. Cancer is a cardinal sign, the sign that this reblog is focused on (along with its opposite Capricorn). The opposite signs share the same modality–which is the hidden harmony in opposition. Astrology has many harmonies built-in, if you look for them.

Cancer has “direction.” The energy is focus and directed: it’s creative, which is why is related to the Mother-mothering principle.

After I published this post. I thought: hmm… why am I interested in this post as my reblog? How did it come up in my awareness? So I look at the transits for today. The moon is exactly opposite my natal moon (in Cancer) @ 12 degrees. So that’s how astrology works… it’s beautiful, and poetic–and you don’t even have to PAY ATTENTION to it or “FOLLOW IT’, for it to work; its just silently in the background, describing what is already happening.
