Full Moon in Cancer

It has been such a magical full to moon to have in the family-oriented sign of Cancer. How can we appreciate our families even more?

  • Think of your home and bless it.
  • Remember your first memory and nurture it by writing it down.
  • Close your eyes and put your hand on your heart and say “This is my home. I am here, now.”

Pop-up friend

Being observed — Ka Malana Photography 2023

Being observed while I had just wrapped up my lunch at the incredibly informative and mind-blowing conference of PSOAS—Pacific Sports and Orthopedic Acupuncture Symposium.

This sweet charmer was wiggling his or her nose at me and had the most pleasant while curious energy. This felt like the most natural encounter—clearly the little one does this a lot to other conference goers, although I was the only one around. But the dexterity and skill of the sneak-up, pop-up was unprecedented by others of its kind. This is career squirrel 🐿️

Flexible, quick-witted, and nutty… 🙂

Gotta love this animal medicine that impresses me while I’m being wowed in so many other ways, reminding me to be light-hearted, fun, and never miss an opportunity to say “hello there” 👋

Field of Sunflowers, Happy Bee — Fiesta Estrellas

Another one of my pleasures is photography. Photography changes so quickly. It’s been a long time since I got to enjoy being inside of a dark room. The calm silence and the enjoyment of the trickling water in a mostly silent room, dunking my finished photo in the fixer with my tongs and the sensation of the feeling of the photo through the tongs with the touch of its rubbery ends against the glossy texture of the image. I even miss the smell of the chemicals and that red light. I miss the red light the most. A darkroom was a peaceful place to be. Click the link above for all the photos… You will be happy you washed your eyes with abundant sunflowers…

When I photographed the headlining photo, I was taken by the angles of the colors of the different aspect of the image. I could make an abstract painting based off of this photo.

November 17, 2013, Taurus Full Moon, Relationships, Art — Fiesta Estrellas

This is another earlier blog post of my mine. I reached into my archives where I wrote about astrology; this was before I branched out and wrote poetry, and shared my art, and got more social about my life and my journey. I published a book since I was blogged, yay! I like to blog about ALL THE THINGS! New material is coming in 2023–but right now, this is my blog celebration. I teamed up with Cheer Peppers because I wanted to blog for the whole month with a team. I like to share space with people and I’m so glad that you have decided to read my writing, and truly: I am glad you decided to be part of my world. You matter, and I appreciate you!!! ❤ Please enjoy! Another busy back-to-back day today 🙂 I’ll be around to visit you again very soon!

A little bonus today that I’m excited about is that I linked all my Taurus posts to celebrate this Full Moon Eclipse in Taurus we are currently experiencing.

This first one below—> This was my life-changing Kauai experience when I got my spiritual name Ka Malana. It was a short post. I was very busy experiencing it all. I remember the most beautiful New Moon in Taurus ceremony on the beach… just amazing. The order of the blog posts is from oldest to most recent.

This one I didn’t even get to re-read, but I’m in need of re-reading it, *and* slowing down. Whatever that means! Felicia, our aloe, passed away when we moved South to San Diego…. Felicia never recovered. 😦
Lost the photo on this one that was originally linked. This is the down-side of using the internet to store our memories…
You can really see here where I started to write poetry (in place of astrology?) in addition to astrology 🙂
Click this for the photo–I also have blogged “some” of my photography in the past. Long time readers of this blog will remember my photography periods. I’m not sure why this link isn’t showing a preview picture of my post.
This one isn’t about the moon in Taurus. It’s Sun Conjunct Uranus in Taurus.

I hope you are enjoying this celebration!!

Magical pathways and definite signs

Brilliant sun dresses the grass in glistening crystal light, like glass

as each day fades more quickly than the last

with only time scattering, not shattering.

I am alone in the temple of my studying

who has hope in this life that’s quickening?

The messages on the wind are obvious and settling.

Feathers touch my eyes even when I haven’t been eyes wide-open, a blessing.

head to the ground, I see the sky, anyways.

goddess protects me, restores me, intrigues me.

she is my mystery, cloaked in light. Too bright to see the shapes.

she is the laughter that breaks over silly faces

and highlights dreamy face contours full of delight.

I’m walking on the ground that you put down for me, wearing my t-shirt of faith, that one that was an accidental gift posted to me.

Owl, Hawk, you remind me that my roots are going down, right where I am. I am meant to be here.

Butterflies and sun blazing and all…

The heat makes the air rise, and I wonder how much the butterfly has to move to keep from getting scorched by summer sun.

She is beautiful, but she works hard, while others see whimsy.

She wants to know more about the mystery of the wind, but she’s Content to ride, knowing how to glide, and when to flit.

And when to rest.

delicious sun

the sun is delicious with its orange yum glow

it dangles the edge of the horizon,

painting with wet colors

as it slips into the brown earth layers,

implants like a vibrant seed into the

cool, jazzy earth.

then with a wink, the earth slurps up

the sun’s last light.

Cambodia part 6: beautiful people

It’s not easy to get my photography converted from a shiny print into a photograph with glare; and even though I saved the negatives, there are projects that I never got around to, like making new prints or digital images from the negatives, or scanning in photos, etc etc.

However I enjoyed these compositions of people in their natural element, and really feel these images express the beauty in the spirit, and the community liveliness I witnessed.

Like this.

This is the life—

The satisfaction of a statue,

expressing timeless surrender.

We can travel to a memory,

even tarnished, it will shine.

You can dream about what’s possible,

and re-imagine what already happened.

May we all live and grow old

and smile, contentedly.

Outdoors in Cambodia: a meditation

In this blog post, I have a recorded a track for meditating outdoors. I’ve also included my photography from my visit to Cambodia in 2001. There’s two images of me from 19 years ago, taken by one of my teachers from University of Pennsylvania, Larry Silver.

Please take some time to sit outside and listen to this meditation, sitting or standing against a tree.
